HOWL GALLERY PRESENTS THE ART OF RENE MIVILLE

 Rene Miville

RENOWNED CAPTIVA ARTIST RENE MIVILLE TO SHOW AT HOWL GALLERY

HOWL Gallery will be featuring the work of fine artist and former Vogue photographer Rene Miville during the January 1st Art Walk in Downtown Fort Myers.  The show marks the landmark return for the celebrated artist, having not shown his fine art photography in over 10 years.  During the 1980’s and 1990’s Rene exhibited his large scale 4’x 9’ photographs at numerous museums and galleries across the country, including The Museum of Art in Boca Raton, The LA County Art Museum, and The Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany.  His works are also included in the private collections of famous musician Graham Nash of Crosby, Still, & Nash; and that of local gallery owner Terry Tincher of Space 39.  In addition to his international art shows and reviews in major art publications, Rene was also the subject of a PBS documentary filmed in 1992, that was aired extensively in the 1990’s and early 2000’s entitled, “Master Manipulator: Avant Garde Photog rapher Rene Miville”.

Rene’s subject matter encompasses everything from ballroom dancers and snake handlers to Florida nudist colonies and hard rock shows.  The artist pioneered a method of developing his large scale photographs by physically painting and splashing developer and stop chemicals onto huge blocks of paper.  During late night sessions under the moonlight of his Captiva home, the artist created masterpieces of modern art.   Rene’s intention is to capture the deeper reality of each moment, and in doing so, he brings his own sometimes humorous and often cutting point of view across to his audience.

Rene was an early supporter of HOWL Gallery and became closely involved with the gallery during the very first Art Walk in 2008.  Rene’s work embodies the spirit and broad range of ideals similarly held by HOWL Gallery.  With his fashion photography for Vogue Italy and his work with bands like Death, Fugazzi, and Pantera, to his museum and gallery shows, Rene’s work magnifies the intricacies of the common human experience.

Aside from his fine art work, Rene has been aggressively active in supporting his local communities on Sanibel and Captiva Islands and in the Downtown Fort Myers River District over the last 2 decades.  He championed the upcoming banner project promoting attractions and areas in Fort Myers, which will be hitting major through fares in early 2010.  Rene also created an art competition showcasing vinyl records to be premiering at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in April.

HOWL Gallery will be featuring several of the artist’s enormous 4’x9’ framed originals, plus Giclee prints and affordable SIGNED limited edition posters.  A public opening reception will be held during the Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk on January 1st, 2010.  Meet the artist from 6-10pm, light refreshments will be served with live music from 8-10pm on the HOWL Gallery back patio.  The show will run until February 3rd, 2010.  For private showings please contact Alainna Zwiernik at HOWL Gallery.

HOWL GALLERY/TATTOO PRESENTS GALAXIES UNITED

OPENING RECEPTION APRIL 1st  DURING FORT MYERS ART WALK

HOWL Gallery/Tattoo presents “Galaxies United”, a new exhibit featuring the artwork of Stephen Hayford and Robert Hendrickson, both Lucasfilm artists living in Southwest Florida. The show features photographs of hand-crafted dioramas by Stephen Hayford and the graphically bold watercolor works of Robert Hendrickson.

Stephen Hayford is an award-winning photographer, working in photojournalism for more than 20 years. His journalistic work influences his art, which is approached from the perspective of a documentarian. Hayford creates elaborately detailed dioramas which he populates with customized action figures which are less than four inches tall. He then photographs these unique scenes with great attention to light, subtle gestures, and compositional storytelling.  Thus he creates realistic, and sometimes exaggerated, portraits of human behavior in plastic.Hayford’s interest in plastics grew out of his childhood fascination for toys and passion for Star Wars. He channels this youthful passion as an official artist for Lucasfilm. His personal work reflects the peculiarities he encounters as a Florida resident.

Robert Hendrickson was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. At a young age he showed an interest in the arts that eventually lead him to the Art Center College of Design. Since launching his career as a freelance illustrator, Robert has created artwork for the entertainment, advertising, book and magazine industries. Past and current clients include Lucasfilm, The Jim Henson Company, Time Inc, Topps, IDG Entertainment and more. In 2005, Robert began officially creating artwork for the Star Wars universe. His work can be seen in the pages of Star Wars Insider to limited edition prints for Star Wars Celebration IV, V and Star Wars Celebration Japan.

The opening reception for “Galaxies United” will be held Friday, April 1st, in conjunction with the downtown Fort Myers Art Walk, from 6-10pm. The evening will also be a celebration of HOWL Gallery/Tattoo’s 2 Year Anniversary, and will feature a raffle with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Animal Refuge Center in North Fort Myers. The exhibit continues through April. For more information, please visit www.howlgallery.com, www.stephenhayford.com, or www.roberthendrickson.net.
