VERON ENNIS SOLO SHOW

HOWL Gallery features the modernist paintings of Veron Ennis, March 2013

Opening reception during the March 1st Art Walk in downtown Fort Myers.

Veron Ennis is a Fort Myers-based modernist painter concerned with the intimate characteristics of the layered painted medium, the language of color, and the interplay between precision and chance application. Using an underlying grid format, she utilizes an assortment of media to create her paintings, including water-based paints, acrylics, polymer-based grounds, cotton rag paper, raw canvas and wood panel.

A graduate of Virginia Tech University, a student of graphic design, art history and theory, and blessed to grow up visiting the museums of Washington, DC, Veron established her foundation as an artist.

Ennis calls her current body of work Transference. In these new tightly-structured abstracts, Ennis transfers to her viewers elated feelings of love and joy in a non-objective manner.

“The transference of information during the creative process from artist to painting, and then from painting to viewer when the work is completed, is the reason why art can transcend time and why abstract painting has the ability to communicate. Transferring specifically positive information through the means of creating a non-objective painting is a graceful way to connect with people and is freeing and enlightening for the artist. Transference is a series of work, continued from the series Chroma Tone, that conveys a gentle and calm message, created through the artist and medium, and open to a relaxed and perceptive interpretation. Positive artwork is no less serious than work of any other nature, in fact, it is essential,” explains Ennis.

Ennis has exhibited her works at some of Southwest Florida’s top galleries, including solo and group shows in Fort Myers, Sanibel, Naples, and Cape Coral. She has also exhibited in New York and Miami.

Ennis is the curator of the recent exhibition OPT (Open Positive Transference) in Naples, as well a participating artist in the OPT movement. Ennis is the former Director of UNIT A – Contemporary Art Space, a 7,000 sqft urban loft space exhibiting and housing the permanent collection of internationally acclaimed urban expressionist, Marcus Jansen. She also previously served as the curator for the Ferrari Gallery in Cape Coral, where she designed shows by noted artists including David Hatchett, Uri Berger and Jeffrey Scott Lewis.

Additionally, Ennis is an arts journalist and critic, writing for such publications as ART DISTRICTS magazine, Times of the Islands, RSW Living, Bonita & Estero, Gulf & Main, and Gulfshore Life magazine.

Opening reception from 6 to 10pm, March 1st, 2013. Refreshments provided. Live music on the back patio. In conjunction with the Fort myers Art Walk.

HOWL GALLERY/TATTOO PRESENTS GALAXIES UNITED

OPENING RECEPTION APRIL 1st  DURING FORT MYERS ART WALK

HOWL Gallery/Tattoo presents “Galaxies United”, a new exhibit featuring the artwork of Stephen Hayford and Robert Hendrickson, both Lucasfilm artists living in Southwest Florida. The show features photographs of hand-crafted dioramas by Stephen Hayford and the graphically bold watercolor works of Robert Hendrickson.

Stephen Hayford is an award-winning photographer, working in photojournalism for more than 20 years. His journalistic work influences his art, which is approached from the perspective of a documentarian. Hayford creates elaborately detailed dioramas which he populates with customized action figures which are less than four inches tall. He then photographs these unique scenes with great attention to light, subtle gestures, and compositional storytelling.  Thus he creates realistic, and sometimes exaggerated, portraits of human behavior in plastic.Hayford’s interest in plastics grew out of his childhood fascination for toys and passion for Star Wars. He channels this youthful passion as an official artist for Lucasfilm. His personal work reflects the peculiarities he encounters as a Florida resident.

Robert Hendrickson was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. At a young age he showed an interest in the arts that eventually lead him to the Art Center College of Design. Since launching his career as a freelance illustrator, Robert has created artwork for the entertainment, advertising, book and magazine industries. Past and current clients include Lucasfilm, The Jim Henson Company, Time Inc, Topps, IDG Entertainment and more. In 2005, Robert began officially creating artwork for the Star Wars universe. His work can be seen in the pages of Star Wars Insider to limited edition prints for Star Wars Celebration IV, V and Star Wars Celebration Japan.

The opening reception for “Galaxies United” will be held Friday, April 1st, in conjunction with the downtown Fort Myers Art Walk, from 6-10pm. The evening will also be a celebration of HOWL Gallery/Tattoo’s 2 Year Anniversary, and will feature a raffle with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Animal Refuge Center in North Fort Myers. The exhibit continues through April. For more information, please visit www.howlgallery.com, www.stephenhayford.com, or www.roberthendrickson.net.
